One of My Favorite Things About Blogging

June 14, 2019

Being a fashion and beauty blogger is amazing for a lot of reasons – getting to meet other influencers and people from around the world, working in an industry I love, receiving free products from brands I admire, the list goes on. But there is an additional reason I love working as a blogger – the ability to provide exposure for lesser known/smaller brands.

Today I’m excited to share two of those brands with you: AYNI and Maiami. AYNI is a Peruvian brand, which promotes the synergy of ethics, aesthetics, and sustainable fashion. Maiami is a Berlin based company, which is rooted in the appreciation for handmade knits and is dedicated to the empowerment of the people who make their hand knitted garments.

In this modern day of fast fashion, it can be easy to adopt a mentality of why pay more, so I think it’s important to recognize why sustainable fashion is worth the extra investment. The first reason, and most significant to me, is that sustainable fashion promotes fair trade. In other words, the clothes are made using ethical practices (as opposed to sweatshop or child labor). In addition to protecting workers’ health and well-being, sustainable fashion is also worth investing in for environmental reasons. Fast fashion is one of the biggest contributors to pollution in the world and it also is a huge drain on scarce resources, such as water. Using sustainable practices, helps conserve these precious sources as well as reduce the waste produced by the fashion industry.

Lastly, sustainable fashion is worth the added investment because unlike fast fashion there are only a limited amount of pieces produced. Think of it like art – the pieces are a more valuable commodity because they are unique and limited! I love knowing that the items I’m wearing are special, and that there is an extremely low likelihood of me walking down the street and seeing someone else wearing the same thing!

If there are any lesser known brands that you are a fan of, I’d love to check them out so definitely share their information with me in the comments below!
