How to Wear an Oversized Blazer

January 3, 2018

Today’s look combines two of my favorites – blazers and menswear inspired looks for women! Blazers are having a major moment (yay!) so let’s talk about how to wear an oversized blazer.

Styling is key when wearing an oversized blazer (when I initially put on this blazer, I looked absurd because of how oversized it is)!

The first step is to cuff the sleeves. This step might sound easy, but I’ve found that all my personal styling clients struggle with it. The cuff looks best when it is wide and not too bulky (what you do NOT want to do is roll up the sleeves over and over so that you’re left with a narrow, bulky cuff). Don’t worry if the cuffs aren’t exactly even or look a little sloppy – in fact that’s the look you are going for!

The second step is to create definition at your waist with a belt. Do not button the blazer; instead overlap the fabric (look at the photos to see how I did it) and then use the belt to cinch in your waist and hold the jacket in place. Remember to place the belt at your natural waist (if you bend to the side a crease will form at your natural waist; it will be the smallest part of your midsection). The Chicwish blazer I’m wearing works perfectly with a belt because even though it’s oversized the fabric isn’t too thick!

The final step is to choose fitted jeans or pants. Because the jacket is oversized and has a lot of volume you need to balance it out by keeping your bottom half streamlined (otherwise you’ll lose your shape)!

That’s it! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments and make sure to check out the other great blazers I found from Chicwish below!
